"Read a winner!  Select a book from the Caldecott or Newbery Award lists."

My opinion & review:

I really enjoyed this book although it was different to what I usually read. Kira Kira is about a girl and she is Japanese but lives in America. Her first word was Kira Kira which means beautiful in Japanese. Her sister Lynnie taught it to her. Their parents own a grocery store but because it isn't earning the family enough money they have to move to Georgia which is where the girls Uncle live's. In Georgia all the girls make fun of Lynnie because she is Japanese. The girls get a new baby brother and soon he has grow up to be toddler. One day Lynnie gets really sick and all she does is lie in bed. In the holidays whilst Lynnie stays home the other two go to work with the parents. Will Lynnie ever recover from her sickness? Read Kira Kira to find out!
